Buzz at Conference
I’ve just returned from the 71st National Party Conference in Auckland and what a fantastic occasion it was. Over 600 delegates from all over New Zealand gave the conference a real buzz and positive feeling. However there is still plenty of work to be done to ensure a National win in the 2008 election.
In his main address Leader John Key laid out a four-part plan to make housing affordable, especially for our ‘young couple’ investors trying to buy their first home. The plan includes:
- Getting people into a better financial position to afford to purchase a house – through growing the economy and personal tax reduction.
- Freeing up the supply of more land for housing developments.
- Dealing to unnecessary compliance costs such as the RMA & Building Act.
- Allowing state house tenants to buy the houses they live in and re-invest the sale proceeds into replacement homes for the needy.
As landlords are forced to pass on high interest and mortgage rate increases in the form of weekly rent price hikes this announcement is very timely. National is committed to helping kiwis obtaining their first homes. Watch this space for more details in 2008.
Next years conference in Wellington is sure to be a great one.
